About The Tuscaloosa Children's Center, Inc.

In 1987, under the leadership of the Tuscaloosa County Office of the District Attorney, a Board of Directors for Tuscaloosa County’s child advocacy center was established. The purpose of the child advocacy center was to monitor the efforts of the Department of Human Resources and law enforcement, ensuring that child abuse investigations were conducted in a timely manner; and ensuring victims received the protection and services they needed. During the next year, a building was donated, renovated, and furnished through state funding and community efforts. The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. (TCC) began providing services to child abuse victims in October 1988 and has continued to provide services since that time. In 1988 the Tuscaloosa County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) was expanded to include the services of the child advocacy center during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.  In 1995, services were expanded to include counseling for child abuse victims. A second counselor was hired in 2001 due to a growing number of children referred for counseling. In 2006, The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. hired a forensic interviewer to assist with child abuse investigations, interview victims, and testify in court. In 2016, a Parent Coordinator was hired to provide more in-depth services and parenting classes to supportive family members receiving services at our agency. In 2018 our agency launched a capital campaign to raise money in efforts to acquire a new property. In December 2019, our agency relocated to our new building at 2901 7th Street Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. is a member of the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers (ANCAC), which oversees forty-five centers throughout the State of Alabama.
